The Story of the Miraculous Medal
The Miraculous Medal originated through a series of apparitions experienced by Saint Catherine Labouré, a young novice of the Daughters of Charity in Paris, in 1830. During these visions, Our Lady appeared to Catherine and asked that a medal bearing her image be created, promising great graces to those who wore it with Faith.
First struck in 1832, the medal quickly spread throughout the world. Accounts of answered prayers, conversions, and healings soon became associated with it, giving rise to its enduring name — the Miraculous Medal.
Saint Catherine kept her role in its origin private for more than forty years, living a humble life of service until her death in 1876. She was canonised in 1947.
